Here is some advice for those of you wanting to help you child at home:

Tricky Words

‘Tricky words’ are words that we cannot sound out with the phonics that we know.

They are words that we see and use all the time in our reading and writing.

They are words that we need to learn from memory.

Here are some ideas of ways you could practise reading and writing your ‘Tricky Words’ at home.

Reading

• ·        Look for the words in books
• ·        Flash cards round the house
• ·        Use flash cards to play memory games
• ·        Use flash cards to play snap
• ·        Write the ´Tricky words´ on card to make stepping stones or a hopscotch game
• ·        Put your word cards on Jenga bricks or building bricks

Writing

• ·        Write your words in different colours
• ·        Use magnetic letters or scrabble pieces to make your ‘Tricky Words’

• ·        Make your words out of playdoh
• ·        Write your words in sand, glitter or shaving foam
• ·        Paint your words
